Alright so, finally the fruits of my labor have come to fruition (teehee I like that sentence) and the site has launched. You can check out http://www.singaporeair.com. It took 10 months and 75 people (some only worked a couple of days or so), but we finally got it going.

I have to say if you hadn't looked at the old site, this is at least a 10 time improvement over what it used to be like. I worked on the booking section, so from the search for flights page(s) all the way up to the enter passenger details page is all mine among numerous other things. At the same time I was designated the "Front End Architect" so basically if it had to do with the layout from the dev perspective I was the guy that made the decisions. That was really nice.

So, finally the site is off and we can work normal hours and actually have a real life. Going to Tioman Island in Malaysia (rated one of the worlds top 10 beaches) with Pam this weekend cause her birthday was yesterday. That should be nice I will let you know. I have a lot to say about my mom's trip here two weeks ago, along with about 600 pictures to upload. I will send that up later.

Well, the final launch date for the project is quickly approaching, and although I did not think it was possible my work load is actually increasing. I will most likely be working like 15 hours a day every day till July 16th. So, work is really hectic but still going quite well considering. I have learned a lot, which I can take going forward and will be very benificial for my career, and I also think that possibly because of the work that I put in this project I am going to ask for a promotion. NO quarantees that I will get anything but doesn't hurt to try.

Things are going really well with Pam, will upload a picture right now to my photo album. Not sure what to think about that whole situation. I was not really looking for anything serious while I am out here but that is the direction that it is heading. Not complaining just a little wary. Oh well, will just have to take things as they come.

The most important thing that I know of coming up is the fact that my mom will be out here in like a month. I am soo looking forward to this trip. Two weeks of just hanging out relaxing, travelling to different places and seeing things. Pretty much the whole reason I signed up for this gig packed in a two week period. Should have a lot of interesting things to say and or show after that. Before then probably nothing. I hope to go do something fun this weekend, go to the McRitchie Resevoir which is this big nature park with muonkeys and stuff. Should be a lot of fun, will make sure to post pictures.

Well talk to you guys later.

I dropped off the face of the planet for a while, and I have recieved some complaints, so here is an update. There isn't a whole lot to tell. I have been working like 12 to 15 hour shifts everyday including most weekends. Got into the get up, go to work, work all day, go home, go to sleep, repeat rythm. Work is going pretty well, supposed to launch in July so there is a lot of pressure to get everything done. Other than that not much to report. Went to Bangkok a few weeks ago to visit my old college roommate Erik. That was really nice. Went to a Thai puppet show which I thought was going to be marionettes, but was actually nothing like that. It was slightly entertaining but I fell asleep for the first 45 minutes or so. Also went to a comedy show, with a couple of german guys, who played a lot of music intstruments and did situational comedy with the music. That was an amazing show, I would totally go again. After that it was back to work again.

On a lighter note, been dating this indian girl named Pam out here which is going fairly well. She is a lot of fun most of the time, but sometimes she just drives me crazy. Not sure what is going on there.

Well that is all there is to report right now.

Considering that I eat lunch every day in the same cafeteria that all the trainees and current Singapore girls eat in, you can imagine that lunch is a pretty good part of my day.

Enjoy your reading, and think, if only the US would implement these standards.

May. 8th, 2005 @ 04:00 am WARNING!!! Culture Shock, Or Something!!!
Current Music: Thumping of house music
So, I was told that I was going to recieve a culture shock as soon as I got here, that everything was going to be so different. Well it wasn't, not totally. I mean it was a lot like any city in the US just with a lot more asians. I have continuously noted though that there is a certain stigma associated with being white and it is really quite odd.

In general everyone is very nice, and I haven't really had any problems since I have got here. I understand the local singlish well enough now that I don't really notice the difference, lah. (that is how they speak, lah *grin*) But what I have noticed is everyone really looks at caucasians, Americans especially in a different way than everyone else. In some ways that is a good thing, you will get preferential treatment because you are white, people are far nicer, but at the same time there is kind of an unstated stereotype that all white people (and men in general) seem to fall into. Everyone on the team jokes that there are DWG filters, and really there are. The concept of a dirty white guy is so prevalent it sickens me. From the older white guys picking up on very young beautiful asian girls who are either "working" or are what they call SPG (Singapore Party Girl) meaning girls that really go after you for a sugar daddy. And that kind of thing wouldn't be that difficult being that the conversion rate is so favorable.

I am not one of those people and it really feel uncomfortable when there are a number of ex-pats around. It is strange but I always kind of had this uncomfortable feeling in very crowded places cause usually the guys there are very aggressive, cocky, pushy, drunk and stupid. Granted they are all built like greek statues but still I would like to think there is more than that. That feeling is even more magnified out here. I have become very accustomed to the culture out here and I really think that I enjoy it more than in the US. People are respectful, and if you are in a non ex-pat area they seem to be very friendly. But there is that stigma hanging over my head that whenever I talk to a girl I am always thinking are they thinking that they are some trick to pull, or that maybe I have a case of yellow fever. And if I do meet someone and hang out with them then I constantly am getting looks and stares.

What it all boils down to is that I am just really uncomfortable a fair amount of the time it seems. I haven't really gained that comfort factor where I am not nervous or second guessing everything. Over analyzing everything as is my tendency. I really do miss my friends and family. All you guys are more than just people that I know or talk to, hang out with occasionally, you are all very important to me. I never have to feel uncomfortable around you guys, I never have to worry what people will think or say. It is purely that no matter what the situation I know that I can handle it because all of you are there to handle it with me. I just don't have that out here and of everything that I could say that is different that is the thing. So, I guess my problem is not necessarily in the difference in culture but that in the last few years I have always had people there with me to pick me up if I stumble as I would do for them.

I miss all you guys, and wish that you were here to experience everything with me. Everywhere I have been life is not that much different than at home, but it still is a world apart without you guys. So, I guess I am going sappy but I just want to thank all of you for being there whenever I need you.

Apr. 23rd, 2005 @ 12:03 pm SOOOO tired
Well, nothing much new to report. Couple weeks ago went to Bangkok with Jimmy. That was really fun. Hung out and met his girl in Bangkok. Did a bunch of site seeing during the days and a lot of drinking at night. Drinking in Bangkok is very different. The clubs are all setup such that you just get a table somewhere and everyone who are friends stands around the table and just dances by their chairs. Makes it difficult to talk to girls when they are all huddled around a table with their friends. That and the language barrier is huge in Thailand. I don't speak more than a few words of Thai and they usually seem to just speak a few words of English so, talking to anyone isn't all that easy. But it was a very nice relaxing weekend, took a bunch of pictures will have to post those up to Flickr when I get a chance.

Other than that I have just been working my ass off. You have no idea the workload. I have started having nightmares about work. Waking up in the dead of the night with code running through my head. Starting to feel over worked, under paid, and under appreciated. You know the normal human grind. Hard to really appreciate the area when a short day is 10 hours, and a long one is like 16. I get up, go to work, work all day, go home, eat (if i get home before 12) and then go to bed. Repeat.

Oh well, I get to stay for another 6 months at least. And there is talk about moving people here "permanently" not sure what that means but I am going to try and stay as long as I can. Even though I miss all my friends back home.

Well it is Saturday and out here that is a working day so back to work. Talk to you later.

Current Music: the constant whir of the A/C
So, I haven't posted in a while and I have heard some complaints but just to let you know I am alright just been really busy with work and life that I haven't had a chance to keep you posted. I will try to tell everything chronologically and it is going to be VERY long so just be warned.

Well, starting from my last post I have just been really busy with work. We are in full development now so there is a lot to get done and unfortunately we have a deadline to meet that was set without knowing the quantity of work required. We work like 14 or 15 hours a day, go home and eat and then maybe work for a few more hours. Sleep for like 4 hours and get up and do it all over again. Getting pretty tired and hard to get up in the mornings but I have to get up every day for work so I just keep plugging away. Thankfully, of all the travelling that I will be doing (have done) or I would go crazy.

Last weekend as a nice break I went to the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix. This was really a spur of the moment thing, and I have not really watched any F1 before but I figure there is only one in 22 different countries and the one in the US is in Indianapolis so I don't think I would have the opportunity to see an F1 race in my life. We took a bus on the way up there which actually was really nice. Wide seats, lots of leg room and they basically laid flat. I worked most of the way up there but did get a few pictures off of the Malaysian country side on our way to Kuala Lumpur. Got a few pictures of the countryside. It is hard to compare out here to what I am used to in the US. Everything is so green and tropical. Quite beautiful actually.

After the bus ride we got to the hotel in KL, and then went out and about. Did a fair amount of site seeing in the time we had. We went to the National Mosque of Malaysia. Never been inside a real mosque and the nation of Islam has a very bad rap with the muslim extremists everywhere, but there was definitely something about this place. It was so peaceful and serene I could have just stayed there and contemplated for hours. I wouldn't consider becoming a muslim but I wouldn't mind just meditating and relaxing in a place like that. Most churches that I have ever been to did not have such a amazing quality to them. From there we went to the Merkada Square which is where the British governers used to live back when it was a colony. It was quite hot out and my camera unfortunately died so I didn't really get any pictures.

We started walking looking for a place to buy batteries for my camera and stumbled upon this back alley. It was a great example of the local culture I believe. This alley was just wall to wall shops and stalls. I mean picture like a 2 mile long alley flea market. There was food and drinks and clothes and everything. Amazing to see because Malaysia is a predominantly muslim country so, everywhere you go the girls are dressed in head pieces that allow you to only see their face. Quite strange because they would wear tight clothes (pants and shirts) and then you couldn't see any of their head. There were many beautiful girls (from their faces) and it was actually kind of exciting cause you couldn't see anything about them so it left a lot to the imagination. I can see from a guys perspective why it is appealing for women to be "modest." We walked the whole street and finally found batteries and realized that it was quite late and we still had a few stops to make. We took a cab to the Petronas Towers. They were featured in a movie, not sure which one (maybe entrapment, or a new bond movie) but basically they are two giant skyscrapers with a bridge connecting them about 40 stories up. It was too late and we couldn't actually go up in them, so we got a few shots from outside and headed on. Went to the Hard Rock cafe to pick up a pin for Bob's wife, and had dinner. Walked a block or so away and went clubbing, it was pretty interesting, the upstairs was a house/techno club which was pretty much dead, and the downstairs was a retro 70's and 80's club and it was PACKED with people. We were both pretty tired though and had to get up REALLY early for the race so we left at like 2am.

In the morning we took a bus out to the race. Took a bunch of pictures from outside, and then headed over to our gate where our seats were. I took like 100 pictures throughout the race. Having never really watched F1 before it was an eye opener. They say that F1 is the top of professional motorsports and I can see that. The cars are unbelievably fast, and they have to do more than drive in a straight line or oval. It was a great race and I find myself watching for anymore F1 on TV whenever I can. After the race it was back on the bus and head back to Singapore. Got back in quite late and just crashed out.

The next week was a short week, worked really hard on Monday and a half day (like 7 hours) on Tuesday, and then it was on a plane for Manila, Phillipines. Once we got into Manila, we were staying at a 5 star hotel (which was like 80 US a night). It was pretty nice, and we headed over to the Hard Rock to once again get a pin for Bob's wife. (BOB OWES ME!!!) Went back to the hotel and went out on the town. We were told to go to this Coyote bar (which was based off the Coyote Ugly movie) but they were having some kind of men's fashion show or something. Too much sausage so we left. We were just wandering and we walked by this club that had a "Booty Shake contest" (that is a direct quote). The bar was packed, there was a ton of hot girls, and right in the middle of it they got a bunch of girls to get up and shake their asses for like a minute. Now normally there would be a lot of thong, and ass showing in the US, but this one was more about style and actually trying to move your ass. Little filipino girls, who honestly have more curves than most of the girls out here but are still asian, shaking their asses was awesome. There were a couple of girls that could move their ass like a black girl that was sweet.

The next morning really early we flew to Kalibo and landed in the smallest airport I have ever seen. You totally see it in movies where there is a landing strip and a shack, and that is all. From there we had the World Rally Championship of Kalibo, where this van driver was dodging tricycles (motorcycles with a buggy attachment used as a cab) other cars, people, everything. It was crazy driving on this windy road swerving all over the place, and some of the road was dirt and potholes and other was tarmac. After about an hour and a half of that we made it to Caticlan where we got on this rickety ferry boat, for the 10 minute ride across the water to the island. I have to say that we hadn't even made it to the island and we were already talking about going back again. It was positively paradise. Got to the beach and it was a picture out of a postcard. Blue/green water, white sand beach, palm trees lining the edge. The hotel was very rustic, in fact, we were ON the beach. There was running water, but no hot or cold, just water. The pressure was quite bad so flushing the toilet involved filling a bucket with water and pouring it in the toilet. There was not a lot of power so, occasionally sections of the island would have a black out. We headed for the beach and it was amazing, the sand was soft and white, the water was actually warm, and there were NO waves, so you could just float in the water and relax for hours. Came back and had a full body massage on the beach in front of our place. It cost like 7 US for an hour and man she was thorough, I almost passed out (NO HAPPY ENDING so don't even ask pervs). Went out drinking and drinks were 1 USD, and during happy hour it was 2 for 1 drinks, and they pour like in the US, so they were pretty strong. Went home late pretty trashed at like 4 am.

Got up in the morning and rented scooters for the whole day. Rode around the island and checked out the sites. There is a drastic disparity between the rich and the poor. If you never leave the beach Boracay is a paradise, but when you get back to where the people actually live it really makes you appreciate what you have, and kind of sickens you at what you take for granted. Most of these people, might have had power, but not much else. I think the lived off the land cause there was no work for them to do, but what they ate I have no idea. Rode all over the island, and then ended up stopping for some drinks at the bar. JJ left early and I stayed talking with the promoters for the event over the weekend, and half the DJs. Met a break dancing crew from Seattle and just partied pretty hard. Had to take back the scooter at 7pm, so I headed out and I was SHITFACED. Riding a scooter down a busy back alley, in the dark, with tricycles and people everywhere was quite interesting and not recommmendable. Got back to the room and passed out for like an hour. Woke up at like 9 and went out to get a bite to eat. After dinner it was back to the bar to continue drinking. The party was pretty sweet, hung out with a bunch of the DJs (met this cute asian DJ Misayo from Tokyo who spun some good house music). Watched the seattle break crew tear it up for a while. They were totally cool, and just out to party it up representing the Seattle, kent, federall way, everett, snohomish areas....... *raises hand in west side W* Finally got home and passed out at like 4:30am.

Got up at 9am and went snorkeling. It was so beaufitul, the entire island is surrounded by coral reefs, there were tropical fish everywhere (didn't really get to see anything SUPER exciting and wish I had my PADI card and could have went diving). It was still an amazing experience I could have floated out there for hours just checking out the reefs and the different fish. If you held a piece of bread in your hand the fish would eat out of your hand. Wish I got a picture but at one point you couldn't even see me cause I was surrounded by like 1000 little fish all chasing after this piece of bread. After snorkeling we went to this tourist island called Crystal Cove, with a bunch of caves and stuff, you had to climb down these stone staircases cut out of the rock which were just big enough for like a 9 year old, so that was pretty tricky but still worth the trip. Got some pretty good pictures. They had a couple of monkeys that were for tourists to take pictures up tied to a tree, they were quite playful, but slightly irritated because of a dog that was around. Headed back to the island and got the most amazing pictures of the sunset over the water. Night time came and it was time to head out again. Went and had dinner and started drinking. JJ went back to take a shower, and I met up with the break dancing crew again. This time we headed over to this bar down the beach where the bar owner offered them a free bottle of alcohol if they would break dance for 15 minutes. Watched them show off their stuff, and hung out with them and they got a free bottle of Absynthe. This was 60% alcohol by volume wormwood distilled, halucinegenic alcohol. I felt that it was a necessity that I atleast try it being that it is legal in the phillipines. That shit was POTENT. Didn't really get all the halucinegenic feelings like in Euro-trip but still it was a great time. We ended up getting a second bottle, and kept the party going. By the time I made it back to the first club we were at I was TRASHED! These guys could drink. We kept drinking and dancing and partying and they did a show in the middle of the crowd where they pulled me in and I tried to represent. I got some props from a lot of the guys, I can't break but they still thought I could get down. :D Drank until 5am and couldn't take it anymore. Went back to the room and passed out.

Got up early again and started the trek back home. Slept most of Saturday night and worked most of Sunday and slept some more. This last week was hell. We worked 16 hours on Mon, 11 on Tues, 10 on Wed, 14 on Thurs, and 9 on Friday. Quite a long week. This weekend just chilled out relaxed caught up on some sleep and here I am. Next weekend, I am going to Bangkok again to meet Jimmy for like 3 days it will be nice to just relax a bit. Being that Jimmy is not into the whole Bangkok thing it will probably be quite a bit more chill than I am used to recently. Other than that nothing to report. Keep you posted though.

So, I didn't mention it in my post but when I went out last Saturday night, we were walking from one bar to the next, and happen to see a crowd out in front of a bar with a number of cops, as we got closer we saw that the bar was pretty messed up inside like a bar fight had went down or something. There were probably 10 Singapore cops, but I don't think they carry guns or wear vests so nothing like US cops, just guys in uniforms.

Well, we walked around the corner of the bar and walking in our direction was a squad (about 8) of Singapore police all in right gear, the bulletproof vest that says police, the helmet with the visor, and cocked an loaded MP5s. These guys looked like they meant business, they were just itching to shoot someone. That was some serious shit. So, anytime even the most minor thought of what might potentially be illegal comes through my mind out here, all I can think of is a squad of cops with fully auto MP5s just spraying and praying and then trying to ask questions.

Talk about a crime deterrent, in the US you don't worry about the cops shooting you cause unless they had cause you can sue. Out here, I don't know the rules that well, but if the US cops carried machine guns and looked like they wanted to use them, there would be a LOT less crime. Maybe less personal freedom as well so that is up to the liberals and the conservatives to argue over.

I leave you with this thought, if you knew you would die if you breathed, would you breathe and die quickly or hold your breathe and die slowly?

Current Mood: frustrated
So, this weekend I was sick and couldn't really do anything. Went out drinking on Friday and that was a mistake. Was supposed to go out dancing with some of the girls from the hostess bar but they were too drunk to go out afterwards, so JJ and I went to a bar and hung out for like 30 minutes and my stomach hurt so bad that I just said screw it and went home.

Got up Saturday at like 9am, hung around the house, putting away some of my clothes and just trying to get fully settled in. Did some grocery shopping, went swimming in our pool. Had Mexican Food for lunch, which although it wasn't the best mexican food, it was still pretty good. "Good enough for Singapore" -- Seem to say that a lot out here. Went back home, slept for like 4 hours. Got up and went to a good by dinner for S2 who unfortunately is going back to Seattle to work, rather than stay on as our Project Manager. He will be missed.... :( But the dinner was excellent, went to an Italian restaurant, actually run by a family of 100% off the boat Italians. The food was excellent, not too terribly expensive, so I will be going back there.

After dinner went out and played pool with Jimmy, a co-workers husband. That was nice, out here, if you have more than 1 pool table in a bar you can not serve alcohol, so there are a lot of young kids out here. These kids are bred on pool, it is like required high school learning or something. After that went back to the hostess bar, to pick up some girls and go dancing. Went to this really cool club in Clark Quay called Attica, which was playing some interesting hip-hop/trance mixes. Kind of poppy house music but still not bad. Closed at 4am, the girls wanted to go home, JJ wanted to go home, I just started drinking at 12:30 so I wanted to go drinking. We ended up going to eat, and then just went home.

Got up today at 9am and that is all she wrote, today I am going to just hangout and take care of stuff around the place and get ready for this week. Almost no different than any other weekend in Seattle....... :( Well, there are still quite a few to come.

So, it was JJ's bright idea that we should go out and have a nice high quality steak on Thursday night. Which I was totally down for and he decided we were going to Morton's Steakhouse which I had never heard of. When we got there I was like HOLY SHIT! Picture the Met, picture El Gaucho, picture Canlis. I am talking ritzy. This place is in the most expensive hotel in Singapore, and the prices on the menu were unbelievable. Everything is a la carte, and there wasn't a steak for under 75 SGD. So, we get in, and we order sauteed wild mushrooms ($25) which were unbelievably phenomenal, a ceaser salad ($21) which they put a lot of mayonaisse in the ceaser dressing so that wasn't so good, a Filet Mignon with Bernnaisse Sauce ($84), which was like 16oz I swear and a very good cut of meat but not the best I have had and not sure it was worth the price, also got steamed asparagus ($22) and a Grand Marnier Souflait ($??) which was fantastic and at that point I was so full that even eating it was a testament to the quality.

All in all the bill came out to $574, so like 200 a piece which is like 120 USD. So I spent 120 dollars on a meal, where I had no wine, not on a date, and honestly, wasn't the best food I have had in my entire life. I guess I just don't have the refined taste but honestly I would be just as happy going to the Keg, in fact probably happier cause I wouldn't have to worry about my wallet.

Well I still feel like shit, so maybe the steak is what did it to me, but I am off to see if I can make myself feel better.

Current Mood: sick
Alright, so today I was introduced to the unhappy side of living in a foreign country. Apparently there is this disease called Traveller's Diarrhea. Which sounds pretty funny and no big deal but trust me it is. Basically, when you eat in countries with food that is prepared not to the FDA level of cleanliness, there are bacteria living in the food such as E Coli (among others). So, you eat these bacteria and they get in your stomach and have a field day. If this was just regular diarrhea it would be no big deal, but no of course not!

All day long I have been alternating between the most horrible stomach cramps imaginable (some actually brought a tear to my eye) and very frequent trips to the bathroom. I have been miserable all day and really unable to do any work. I read up on WebMD about it and basically it says, "only eat foods you prepare for yourself, blah, blah, blah." When you live in a country where you do not understand the labels on 95% of the food, do not know how to cook 95% of the food, and your primary option for food happens to be a hawker center (outdoor restaurant stalls) across the street well yeah that advice really helps. Now that i have it, the only solution is to just wait it out. So, for the next 2 days I am going to be miserable and there is nothing I can do about it.

I figure good strong alcohol kills brain cells, liver cells and a number of other cells, why not bacteria cells? So, I am going to go out and drink as much hard alcohol as possible and see what it does. I will fill you in later.

Just an FYI, if you travel to a foreign country apparently you are only supposed to eat rice and nothing else, or import your food freeze dried and prepared in the US. Happy Eating!

So, apparently I am a bad influence on some people (or a good influence depending on how you look at it). There are two other young (28) single guys on the project, Jon Jon and Bharat. Both like to go out and have a good time, and are interested in experiencing Singapore. Well, you know me if the opportunity arises to go out partying. I throw caution to the wind, slam on the gas and try to dodge the cars to get there. Last night was one of those nights.

JJ got a message from a friend who works at a bar out here that we should come down and visit. I told him we were going and so we grabbed BH and headed over. This is a hostess bar so there are lots of hot girls who are paid to hang out and talk to you, but you have to buy them drinks. As you can imagine there are no other girls there and just guys (it's like an asian strip club but cheaper, and no nudity). So, we know some of the girls there and we are just hanging out drinking and talking. Not sure how but at some point, we had like 10 girls at our table and there were a bunch of tables with guys and no girls. *grin* The music was playing we were dancing, we were drinking, we were talking, just having a great time taking over this bar. The owner even started giving us free pitchers of beer. Think we got like 5 or 6 free pitchers.

Got fairly hammered, bar closed at 2am, got home, and passed out. Don't really remember but I was REALLY hot, so I thought it would be a good idea to sleep on the tile floor in the bathroom to cool down. I don't remember anything after that but I woke up in my bed this morning still semi drunk. Got up, had breakfast and thankfully didn't have to go to work at 7:30 but had to go to the lawyers office at 9:30 instead. So, all day today I was exhausted tired, and a little bit slow. No other after effects thankfully but still. So, I am off to bed now to get a good nights sleep.

Feb. 27th, 2005 @ 11:50 pm Big Mac Index or PPP
So, I was just doing some research on travelling cause I was thinking of going to Borocay, Phillipines in the end of March for Holy Week (some of the best beaches in the world and a HUGE party). One of the things I stumbled across is the Big Mac Index. According to my Economics class there is a thing called PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) which is just a fancy way to say how much a given base currency will take you in a foreign currency. The typical standard to use is the price of a big mac cause really the cost is pretty fixed, so you can tell depending on what the exchange rate is how much it will cost you to buy a big mac in say USD, in Singapore. I have included the link cause I thought it was interesting, you should check it out, and specifically, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillipines, and Australia, as those are the places I will most likely visit.

Talk to you later!

Feb. 27th, 2005 @ 08:52 pm Crazy Weekend
Alright so this weekend was pretty crazy, flashback to the Demon and Loucifer show. Spent three days straight drinking non stop, Thursday I wrote about, Friday I went to see White Noise at midnight. Two things if you can go see that movie you should it was REALLY good, and second, scary movies at midnight are REALLY cool. Got out of the movie at 2:30 and decided it was time to go drinking (I love that you can say that out here).

We didn't know where to go, so we figured we would find a pool hall to go to. The one that we went to was underneath the Hard Rock Cafe, but it was closing at 3:00am and it didn't serve any alcohol. We were walking away and this group of guys and girls were like if you want to go drinking and dancing go around the side of the hard rock, and go take this elevator to the third floor. So, we go around and take this total service elevator up to the third floor, which opens on this back service entrance with tables and chairs all stacked and there is this door where you can here like some hardcore jungle music playing. We open the door and it is a scene out of Lost in Translation I swear. It ended up being just the top floor of the Hard Rock, and they use the service elevator so no one has to walk all the way through the restaurant but at first it looked really shady. Music was awesome, got to love Jungle! :D

While there there was this big Norwegian guy who was totally drunk and took his shirt off and tried to get Jimmy (Crystal's husband) to rub his belly, and then he saw me and tried to rub my belly and drag me out on the dance floor. He was there with this totally hot asian girl who kept stopping him from dragging me out on the dance floor and then giving me hugs to tell me she was sorry. So, I wasn't complaining. The club closed at 3:30 and we weren't done drinking yet so we headed over to Boat Quay (pronounced Boat Key), to go clubbing. Got to this little dive bar and had some more drinks. Played some pool and ended up talking to these three girls who were pretty cool. Got their numbers and hung out with them. Almost got into a fight with some Australians over pool rules (thank god that didn't happen), and then got home at 7:30am.

Passed out and slept all day, woke up at 5:30pm and felt like shit. Hung out for a bit, watched TV and was not planning on going out again, when Jon-jon (co-worker) called and wanted to go have some drinks. So, we go out to Chinatown to a Filipino hostess bar. I didn't know what this was, but apparently this is a bar where they have a bunch of REALLY hot girls who are paid to just drink with you. You buy their drinks and they just hang out at your table and drink and talk. If you are smooth then maybe you can go hang out afterwards and work your magic, but there is no special benefits involved. When we open a bar I think that we should do that. I mean it doesn't cost that much to have the girls there and you think you have hot girls and lots of guys will come in and spend money to drink with hot chicks who want to talk to you. Hung out there for like an hour and then headed over to Boat Quay again. Partied at a few clubs but the scene was pretty dead so we went to this club called Isomnia which apparently is an Ex-pat hang out. There were a lot of goofy looking white guys there who can't dance.

I realize why I feel so uncomfortable in clubs in the US. It is strange to think but when there are a lot of other white guys even if they can't dance I feel like there is competition or something. Most of the bars I have gone to have been all asian and I don't feel I have any problems there, but as soon as I was around a bunch of white guys I was very uncomfortable. Not sure what that means but it was rather strange. I ended up going out on the dance floor and this girl came up to me and started dancing with me. I didn't notice but I guess I had quite a following, we went outside to cool off for a while, and talk and found out her name was Bess and she was from the Phillipines. She said she was going to the University to be a computer programmer, but after a while of talking to her, the club closed and my friend went home. She was like alright so now what, and I said lets go somewhere else and party. She kept quizzing me and it finally came down to, and I quote, "If I go to this club, and eat and then go home with you, what will you give me?" I played dumb for a while to see if I could draw it out of her and sure as shit, she was "working" that night to make money for school. Yeah, right for school. So, the filipino girls are off the list too, I am sticking to Malaysian, or Chinese girls cause they seem to not be working girls. Anyways, that was a rough night and now it is time to rest up and get ready for work in the morning.

Feb. 25th, 2005 @ 11:09 pm work, work, work
Current Mood: exhausted
Nothing much to report for this last week. Have to be up for work every morning at 6:00 am so I am in bed by 11, and this week has been pretty crazy working till like 8 or 9 pm every night. Work is going well but I am very busy.

Outside of work, I went to the Detention Cell (bar near my apartment) and there were a bunch of people playing pool. I figured that while I might not be better than everyone, I figured I would be at least equal or better than most. This was close to not the case. EVERYONE there could play pool, and not just play I mean, they play tournament rules, and there were girls that were running the rack out and shit. I got up to the table and had a good game but unfortunately even though the other guy had 5 balls left, I sunk the 8 and scratched so I lost, but I got mad respect for the game though.

Thursday night, we had drinks by the pool as a send off for Jeff (who is going back to the US to get married ~ ref Batchelor Party). A few glasses of scotch, some AMAZING single barrel whiskey, and some wine later and we were all in trouble. Ate dinner (while drinking still) and then went back to the DC to play pool and drink some more. Yeah we all left the bar at 1am totally drunk, passed out and had to be up to catch the shuttle at 7:45.

Needless to say I got a call at 7:45 wondering where I was. I missed the shuttle but that was cool, I just caught a cab soon after and made it to work like 20 minutes later than everyone else. It wasn't a big deal but still, no more mid week drinking that was horrible. I was drunk/hungover all day, and when it is hot and humid, and you are wearing dress clothes, and you are hung over....... HORRIBLE combination. Felt better this afternoon, and grabbed a bite to eat tonite. Think I am going to go see a movie and go out. Keep you posted.

Feb. 21st, 2005 @ 08:54 pm WOOHOO GO THAILAND!!!!!
Current Mood: happy
Well, let me see. I flew to Thailand this weekend for a Bachelor Party. I thought it was a very appropriate place to go for such an event. I was right! I have to say it was a lot of fun as you can imagine, flew in and took a cab to the hotel, of course I paid 600 baht (about 15 dollars US or so) when I could have only paid like 200, eh oh well. Bangkok is really dirty and dingy, there are a few nice buildings and stuff but in general it is not a clean beautiful place. Especially where we were staying, here is this gorgeous what would be 4 star hotel in the US, right in the middle of hawkers, vagrants, and hookers. Unbelievable!

Everyone is REALLY pushy, and will try to get you to buy anything for outrageous prices, well outrageous for what you can get it for. Walked around the area and checked out some stuff, ate chicken fried rice cooked by a lady out of the bed of her truck, with a little portable wok thing. Cost me like 40 baht for a huge serving (about 1 dollar) and it was GOOD! Got back to the hotel and showered cause I swear it was like 100 degrees and like 90% humidity.

We all got in a cab that took us out to the golf course. Oh, on a side note if you were so inclined there is actually a golf course in the middle of the airport, like you have to walk across the runways to get to the next hole and shit, pretty freaky. Went and played a 9 hole executive, which was cool, didn't play so well but nice to get out and play golf, and we had cute female caddies (no there was no EXTRA caddy services), it was like $80 for 9 holes but well worth it.

Afterward we went to dinner at a place called Cabbages and Condoms, which sounded funny but was started by a guy who wanted to stop the spread of diseases and pregnancy in Thailand, so all profits go to some charity for that stuff. Food was really good, and the Mae khong (Thai whiskey) tasted like paint thinner.

After that we went "sight seeing" to a few clubs, and got pretty trashed, but they all close at 1am (or at least all of these type of clubs do). Everyone ended up leaving and I got dragged by these two cute Thai girls to some other bar (which was really just a Thai kareoke bar), I have to say kareoke isn't too bad when sung in another language. Of course, NO ONE spoke any english there, and everything was written in Thai, so getting your point across was very difficult, but I managed and had a really good time. Got really trashed and ended up going home at like 5am. Ended up over sleeping my flight, so I had to pay for a one way flight that didn't leave until 7pm.

I had all day to explore (by myself) so I went to the river and took a river tour up the river. Totally have to do that again, it stops a bunch of times where you can get off and go see some tourist attraction, and then get back on later but I didn't have time. Took a bunch of pictures though.

Came back, and did some more shopping, you can buy so much shit (mostly knock-offs if they have a brand) for REALLY cheap, I think I spent 1000 baht (like $25) for 2 carved japanese dragon statues and a praying buddha. That was pretty much it, got on the plane, flew home and went to bed. On a side note, I bought two cartons of cigarettes in the Bangkok Airport for 480 baht (like $12), and yes I said TWO CARTONS! I will have to post up the pictures, I will send the link out in a seperate post.

Feb. 18th, 2005 @ 08:47 pm Day 1 complete
Current Mood: tired
So, the first day is finally over. I didn't sleep at all when I got off the plane, jet lag REALLY sucks, so I had to stay up ALL day to try to get back on a normal schedule. Didn't have to work today, so I spent the day just running around and exploring. Still a little freaked out over the whole change, it is pretty different over here, but still a lot of fun.

Took a shuttle around town and stopped at the Suntek City (which sounds like a place but really is just a fancy name for a mall). This place is HUGE, the Singaporeans apparently have a fascination with shopping cause there are malls like every two blocks. They have malls like Seattle has Starbucks! :) So, I went shopping for some stuff for the house (power strip, food, laundry detergent, etc) and then came back to the apartment. Hung out here for a while checked my email and stuff, and then decided I wanted to go swimming. In the time it took me to put on my bathing suit, it went from sunny and nice to torrential monsoon. Rained for like 30 minutes or so REALLY hard and then quit.

Course by then I didn't want to swim anymore! So, some co-workers and I went and grabbed a bite to eat at a Thai restaurant (they have a few of those here) and that is all, now I am off to bed cause I have a morning flight to Bangkok, so I will let you know what happens when I get back.

Feb. 18th, 2005 @ 03:16 am Greetings from Far Away Singapore
Alright, so I just spent the last 30 hours travelling, with layovers and stuff, and technically for me it is 11am on the second day, but of course no, it is really 3am so I am kind of screwed. But other than that, the flight was amazing.

If you have the opportunity to fly Singapore Airlines, DO IT! They were unbelievable. The service was fantastic, anything and everything I could ever want, and the girls were SUPER hot. I am talking young, beautiful asian/indian super model hot. The US needs to drop this affirmitive action and go back to that, people would start flying more often.

Got into Singapore and didn't have any problems getting in or getting my luggage. Got outside and it was like 2 am and like 81 degrees with over 80% humidity. So, it is frigging hot. But the driver with this pimp ass brand new Benz with the heated reclining rear leather seats. Oh yeah, I was the man. =) The drive was very nice everything is very beautiful here, and UNBELIEVABLY clean. I mean I heard it was a clean city, but you don't understand. There is not a piece of trash ANYWHERE. No graffiti, no bums, nothing. I mean I just don't know how that is possible.

Arrived at Frasier Suites, which looked like walking into the Ritz. The apartment is very nice, wish mine looked like this (although slightly larger). I only got a one bedroom, so those of you coming to visit we will work it out. But nice living room with TV/DVD, good sized kitchen, laundry room (which is outside so very hot out there), and then a very nice bathroom, and a bedroom. Not too much space but I don't really need much and this is more than plenty.

Well, I am off to unpacking I think. Will keep you posted for sure.

Jul. 22nd, 2004 @ 04:27 pm I'm Dancing Like MONKEY!
Current Mood: jubilant
Current Music: the constant ringing of my ears from the concert
So, in life you are presented with opportunities. Things that come up and you have to look at it and think, this is a once in a lifetime thing, and drop everything, drop your sanity, ignore what you should do and just do it. If you don't, well "live life to the fullest you are never going to get out alive!"

Last night I was presented with one of those opportunities. On my way home from work, listening to the radio, hear an ad for a Shortbus Long Beach concert that night (in like 2 hours). Shortbus is all the old members from Sublime minus Bradley who died. I totally wanted to go, but I didn't think I could get tickets, didn't have the money, shouldn't go out, you know all the normal sane reasons of the working stiff. When I got home, chatted with Eric about going to a movie, something low key, early get home go to bed early. Mid convo, he asks if he likes Sublime. Apparently, Noodle was in line to get tickets, talked to the manager of Shortbus, got three free tickets and an offer to hang out with the band after hours.

Of course I had to go, I mean I couldn't pass something like that up. Went to the show, Deadset opened (good music, not a tremendous presentation), next came Glimpse. They rocked the house. Nice to see some punk/metal local boys just tearing it up. Have to get a CD for sure. Lastly, Shortbus comes up. I was hoping they would play some old Sublime stuff and they really only played like one or two, most of the harder stuff, and all the stuff from their new album. Music was angry ska/punk/metal. Good stuff but spent more time listening than just getting into the music. REALLY enjoyed the show though, they are great performers.

Afterwards, got a free T-shirt, hung out on the tour bus, shot the shit with the guys. Walked to an after hours which would have been lame if it wasn't for the band there. Just hung out with the guys and BSed about stuff. Most down to earth people I have ever met. Eric Wilson was unbelieveably funny, sarcastic bastard. Damien (the drummer) had his birthday and got totally wasted he was hilarious. Met some other guys don't remember thier names.

Anways, got home at like 5 ish, and went to bed for like 2 hours. Totally exhausted today, but it was so worth it. I had the time of my life, Noodle is the shit, that girl is on my good list for life.

Well, back to staring off into space and praying for sleep, talk later.
